What Makes a Firefighter a
Firefighter
Firefighters...they are a breed of their own.
They work long days and sleepshort nights, they go for hours, sometimes days on end with only a preciouse little bit of sleep.
Yet the do their job well, and voluntarily.
A firefighter can quit at any time, no one
is there looking over our shoulder telling us we can't quit, but we don't quit in spite of that. And when you ask one of us
why, there is a pause and then, "I don't really know" or " I cant really put my finger on it" The only way I can describe
it is a feeling deep in your gut that you can't ignore, something there telling you that this is what you are here to do.
A group may enter a department for no reason
at all...just looking for something to do, but of that group one or two will get thier first taste of fire and realize that
this is in thier heart, and they will do it untell they are physically unable to.
Then there are those who grew up with firefighter
dads and found something magical about the way he would go off Tuesday and come back Friday with a tired look on his face
but with a certain gleam of pride in his eyes that told you he loved what he was doing. Or when he'd go off in the middle
of the night at the sound of his pager and come back later that day with that same gleam in his eyes...despite utter exhaustion.
Some say that firemen are just thrill-seekers,
looking for a quick rush.
Others, those who have experienced them first
hand say they are warriors..they come at a moments notice and seem to stare down the fire..they trample on the dance floor
of the devil wearing the boots of God.
These reasons are all merely speculations..nobody
will ever know what makes a fireman a fireman, but one thing is for sure...the men who don't abuse the power respect others,
and love the job for what it is are fireman night and day....
They are the true fireman of American, they
are the public servants and protectors of the innocent.

What Is A Volunteer Fireman?
Well, first of all he's always busy, Up to
his neck in jobs to do,
He must earn a living every day, Keep his
family, too.
He likes hanging 'round the firehouse, As
the boys chew that fat,
Playing cards and watching T.V., having drills
and things like that.
It's true he isent home a lot, But rather
at the station,
And when convention time rolls 'round, He's
there, That's his vacation.
He's known to be awakened by the siren, late
at night,
The sound that is his warning, There's a fire
somewhere to fight.
He's highly trained in fighting fires, He's
passed the first-aid test,
In fact in all emergencies, you can bet he'll
do his best.
Most times he's rather happy, Taking pride
in his fire-team,
In the hose that must fold perfect and the
engines that must gleam.
He's splendid in his uniform when he parades
n competition,
Always hoping that his company will win highest
recognition.
he only asks just once a year for the citzen's
donation,
To help improve equipment and to operate the
station.
He devotes much time and effort, To the biggest
job in town,
so he's a mighty imporant guy to always have
around.
Now fellows, Since this verse is made in modest
salutation,
We wish you one and all to know, You're important
to our nation.
And so in closing may we add, Our thanks and
our esteem,
To the men who are living up to a little boy's
dream.
